Smiley Electric

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about how we work, what we charge, and where we serve. If your question isn't here, call us and we'll answer it directly.

What electrical services does Smiley Electric offer?

We handle a wide range of residential and commercial electrical work, including panel upgrades, EV charger installation, generator installation, knob and tube rewiring, Federal Pacific and Zinsco panel replacement, LED and fixture lighting, hot tub wiring, troubleshooting and repair, and emergency service, throughout Portland, Beaverton, Hillsboro, and surrounding areas.

Are your electricians licensed and insured?

Yes. Smiley Electric is fully licensed and insured in Oregon under CCB #227116, and every job is performed to the Oregon Electrical Specialty Code. Certificates of insurance are available on request.

How does your $95 service visit work?

A ballpark quote is free by phone or photo. Text us a picture and we can often give you a range the same day. For an in-person assessment we charge a flat $95 service visit: a licensed Oregon electrician comes on-site, visually assesses the work, identifies any safety concerns, and gives you clear repair options with upfront pricing. The $95 covers the dispatch and on-site assessment, and no repairs are performed without your approval.

Do you offer emergency electrical service?

Yes. For urgent, unsafe conditions like burning smells, sparking outlets, or sudden power loss, we provide fast, same-day emergency service when available. Your safety is always our first priority, so call us as soon as you notice a hazardous condition.

What should I do in an electrical emergency?

If you see smoke, flames, or an active electrical fire, leave the building and call 911 immediately. For other urgent issues, turn off the main power supply if it is safe to do so, then call us to request emergency service.

Can you handle electrical work for new construction?

Yes. We provide complete new-home and new-construction electrical wiring, from permits and rough-in through final inspection, so everything starts off safe and up to code.

How often should I have my electrical system inspected?

For most homes, a professional inspection every year is reasonable, and more often if you notice issues or live in an older home. Older homes with original wiring or aging panels benefit from a closer look, especially before adding major loads like an EV charger or heat pump.

How do you determine the cost of electrical work?

Cost depends on the scope of the job, the materials required, and the time involved. We give a ballpark for free by phone or photo, and a precise, written quote after a $95 on-site visit, so there are no surprises.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Call us, email help@smileyelectric.net, or fill out the contact form on the site. Tell us what's going on, and we'll get you scheduled or, for urgent issues, dispatched as quickly as we can.

What is your service area?

We serve the Portland metro area, including Portland, Beaverton, Hillsboro, Gresham, Milwaukie, Lake Oswego, Tigard, Tualatin, West Linn, Oregon City, Happy Valley, Wilsonville, Bethany, and surrounding communities.
