Sherwood has one of the more interesting housing splits in the metro. The Old Town core near Main Street holds genuinely old homes from the early 1900s, while the bulk of the city is much newer. Sherwood was one of Oregon's fastest-growing cities through the 1990s and 2000s. So a Sherwood electrical panel upgrade means very different things depending on your address: a real service change on an old service in Old Town, or a straightforward capacity add on a newer home.
In the older core, undersized services and aging equipment are common; where a Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel turns up, replacement is often the right call. We read your home for what it actually has, not what its neighborhood implies.
On an early-1900s or mid-century Old Town home, an undersized service simply can't safely carry a modern household, so an upgrade to a modern panel with correct grounding is often the first real fix. Sherwood follows the Washington County pattern. The City of Sherwood Building Department issues most building permits, but electrical permits and inspections are handled by Washington County. Sherwood's split shows up in the wiring itself. In the early-1900s Old Town core near Main Street, an original service is small and overhead, and the grounding can be whatever the era allowed, so a real upgrade there rebuilds the service and the grounding electrode system, not just the panel. In the newer subdivisions like Woodhaven and Sherwood West, service is usually underground and panels are 200 amps, so the work is more often adding a subpanel or a few dedicated circuits than replacing a strained main.
Both ends of Sherwood are Portland General Electric territory, so a heavier service is coordinated with PGE at the meter. Electrical permitting and inspection, though, run through Washington County rather than the city, so we schedule the PGE disconnect and the county inspection around the work.
